Steph Song is a Malaysian-born actress raised in Canada and Australia. She was voted Sexiest Woman in the world by Asian readers of FHM magazine. Song has received six Leo Award nominations and one Gemini Award nomination for her TV and Film work in Canada and the US.
Voted one of the “ 2004 / 2005 Ten Sexiest Women in the World” by FHM magazine readers, Steph Song is not just another pretty face. After attaining a double degree in Journalism and Nursing, Steph then embarked on what could only be considered a meteoric ascent in a now firmly established career in front of our cameras.
Born in Kuching, Malaysia, multi-national Steph has also lived in Canada, Colombia, United States and Australia. Since arriving in Singapore in August 2002, she has been the leading actress of award winning English TV drama projects such as First Touch, Concerto for a Bus Driver, Heartlanders, Singapore Short Stories, Love Poetry and Chase. In 2003 the versatile Steph set the standard with her first leading role in a sitcom Achar!. The role was specifically written for her, and testament to her skills, the series was the breakout comedy of the year and went on to win second prize at the prestigious New York International Television Festival 2005 behind NBC’s Frasier. The series has since been broadcast in no less than 10 countries including Australia and the US.
No stranger to film, her list tallies up to an impressive 5 films in the last 3 years including The Long Lunch, which had its world premiere at the Singapore International Film Festival. She also starred alongside screen legend Sylvia Chang in the Hong Kong film Hainan Chicken Rice (“Rice Rhapsody” – international title).
In 2005, Steph returned to Canada in her breakthrough female lead role opposite Paulo Costanzo (NBC’s ‘Joey’) in a film penned by bestselling author Douglas Coupland.
‘Everything’s Gone Green’ is slated for theatrical release in the fall of 2006.
Her most recent project sees her in the female lead role opposite the legendary HK actor Eric Tsang in CBC’s gritty ‘Dragon Boys’- helmed by award winning director Jerry Ciccoritti. Consumately dedicated, Steph learned Cambodian from scratch for the role and now adds it to her list of English, Hokkien and Spanish.
A self confessed ‘greenie’ and animal activist at heart, Steph also did her bid for the environment as the anchor for Earthpulse, a 26 part series, which aired worldwide on the National Geographic Channel.
Steph is a new breed of Asian actress. Eastern looks and soul combined with the feistiness and dedication born to the craft in the West. Once quoted as saying she’d eat a “homeless dwarf’s toenails to work with David Lynch”, she is not without humility or humour.
